"The Multi Sport Athlete

Honing your skill in a specialized sport has obvious advantages, but there is increasing evidence that cross training can further improve one's specialized skill development. Incorporating a varied off-season training regime can improve reaction time, hand eye coordination, agility and balance while reducing negative effects such as muscle fatigue and repetitive strain injuries. Multi-sport athletes display improved health and wellness, motivation, confidence, and creativity. Being involved in a variety of athletic activities increases the likely hood of young athletes staying active as adults. Most importantly, it allows a specialized athlete to stay in shape during the off-season and gives them the rest they need to return to their specialized sport with a renewed enthusiasm and eagerness.
